Fashion Film: Nubivagant van Dorhout Mees

O Esther Dorhout Mees, wat zijn we toch stapelgek op jou (zie hier en hier en hier). Met je shows breng je de lucky few al jaren naar dat mysterieus-zoete dromenland van je, maar je zorgt ook dat ‘de rest’ gewoon mee kan vliegen. Eerder al door een collectiefilm, en nu weer, met Nubivagant.

Dat Esther Dorhout Mees kleding kan ontwerpen, dat weet hopelijk iedereen inmiddels wel een beetje. Kijk, je showt niet voor niets op de Parijse Fashion Week. Maar met haar Fashion Films, die ze ieder seizoen produceert om haar show mee te openen, kunnen we er niet omheen: ze is ook een heus talent als het op produceren en regisseren aankomt…

“When I started to think about my new film ‘Nubivagant’ , based on Murmiration, I wanted to create an other worldly experience. Something that was about nature, but in a surreal way. I’d been looking, for a long time allready for spaces that offered me the opposite almost.. impersonal, big enough to get lost in, industrial and most of all; rough.. Sugar city, which referes to the fact that it used to be an actual sugar factory in 1863 was the most amazing find with its unpolished concrete 108.000 m²..
Let me tell you it was cold, ..so cold actually that we had to go outside (in winter) ever so often, just to warm up! But oh…the shots we could make, man it made it all the more worth it.. ”
